Preventing identity theft

There is a latest in identity theft. And it was done on the ATM (Automated Machine) where you draw out cash. It’s called ATM fraud. That is when someone tries to hack into your debit card account and withdraw all savings you have to be transferred to the criminal’s account. In my country, at least, these culprits have been caught.

But for other countries, I am not so sure whether these kind of frauds are still around, or have subsided. Personally, this is not cool. This is what you call “Daylight Robbery”. I mean the criminals- come on, earn your own money, rather than earning others’ earnings, right? We all work hard to come up with that kind of savings, and you go around churning it out by hacking it.

But come to think of it, identity theft have reached to the point of getting scary. I’ve heard of a lot of cases criminals using fake passport using someone else’s identity to travel to another country, or using a fake identity to gain access to important information, naming some, hacking emails, files and the likes.

This can never be prevented at zero, but can be lessened. How? Total awareness helps. Both you and me, the public, we can do something to curb this irresponsible criminal behavior. To put a hard detectable password to your accounts, to keep changin it once every few weeks, to have up to date anti viruses in your data and PC, and also to secure your passport and Identity Card, secure it like you are taking care of yourself. Try not to put it inside your wallet, instead put it like in the porch you are wearing or something.

If you are not technically inclined, maybe you could go to your nearest bank and withdraw your money once in a while, reducing ATM card fraud. You see, technology is supposed to make things simple for us, errands easy to run, but there’s also the downside of it. You never know who is using the easy technology to have a run for your money. So let’s be prepared, and have a total awareness about identity theft.
