Why we need business plan…

Why a business plan is essential to your business success? Without a plan for your business you have no direction. A business plan will focus your actions in regards to your business. You will know where your business is currently and you will know where your business is heading. You will set business goals and action plans. These are all important to the success of your business.

The purpose of a business plan is to refine the path of your business, identify clear goals, helps you achieve your personal goals by accomplishing your business goals, adds focus to your hard work, and gives you something to monitor your progress against. It helps you to realize what risks and potential for business failure and it helps you put steps in place to avoid this.

How big your business plan will be will depend on the size of your business, who the plan is being prepared for, how the person for whom the plan is being prepared for knows, the need for confidentiality, is this the first time a business plan has been prepared? Is this a major revolution for your business or is it just a revision?

It is best to do the actual planning yourself; you can always get a business writer to edit your plan after you have written it. This way it is real to you and it means something, after all a business plan is a living breathing document; that helps you run a successful business.

Also in the process of writing your business plans and setting your polices in place it is extremely important to get professional advice from an accountant, or a lawyer, business advisor and so on. If you do get the professional support then you have a better chance at succeeding with your business.

An important thing to remember after you have written your business plan is to use it. Do not file it away until the end of the year and it is time to do your books for tax time. You should use your business plan as a guide for running your business. Update it as often as you need to! It is the template that you use to run your business.

Include action plans in your business plan, this will help you to know what needs to be done, and the steps you will need to take to achieve your goals.

Assess your current position, what is working and what is not? How can you improve on where you are? Have you got short term, medium and long term goals? Have you set yourself personal goals that your business can help you achieve? Such as having enough disposable income that you can go traveling at leisure and not have to worry about finding work.
